Thank Heaven for potatoes. Especially when it\u2019s easy to dress them up Greek-style\u2014bright, pungent and with an aroma so intoxicating it could serve as stress-relief therapy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Greek-style\u201d is simply shorthand for \u201clemon, oregano and olive oil\u201d (the way \u201cFlorentine\u201d means spinach). But this is not your standard dish of crispy potato wedges done up Greek-style. Here, layers of thinly sliced potatoes roast and steam, soaking up caramelized lemon sauce and blissing out on oregano. Cut into the casserole and you\u2019ll find strata of textures and flavors, from soft and creamy on the bottom to crispy on top. Imagine Mediterranean, dairy-free scalloped potatoes.<\/p>\n<p>This is yet another treasured recipe from <a href=\"https:\/\/elinorlipman.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elinor Lipman<\/a>. It dates back to our two years\u2019 rooming together after college, before she took up writing best-selling fiction and before I set up Brody Marketing\u2019s world headquarters in my bedroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe recipe was from some international cookbook, a paperback I no longer have,\u201d she says, so the provenance remains a mystery. It is still a favorite for both of us. Confident of its ease and lusciousness, I entered it into a cooking contest\u2014with Elinor\u2019s permission, of course. I christened it \u201cPatates Elinora\u201d in homage. It didn\u2019t win, but the name stuck.<\/p>\n<p>Use whatever potatoes you have on hand\u2014russets, Yukon Golds, and I suppose even purples. Just watch out\u2014this might upstage the rest of your meal.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"> Patates Elinora (Greek-Style Potatoes)<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><em>A mandoline or 2mm slicing disc on a food processor speeds prep.
