Fortunately, baking with wholesome oats makes it gluten-free. And while you can use an egg, it&#8217;s easy to stir up a flaxseed \u201cegg\u201d to turn it vegan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mix up the sweetly spiced apple filling and then pour it right into a greased pie plate. Then sprinkle it with Meri\u2019s crumbly oatmeal dough for a crisp, cookie-like topping. This quick and easy gluten-free Apple Crisp has all the flavor and comfort of America\u2019s favorite pie. Who says you can\u2019t please everyone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Filling<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6 or 7 Cortland or other baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2154 cups sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon cornstarch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc teaspoon nutmeg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u215b teaspoon mace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd teaspoon cinnamon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 teaspoons lemon juice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Topping<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00bc cup sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cup quick oats (check package for &#8220;gluten free&#8221; if you can&#8217;t have any trace of wheat)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 tablespoons butter (for vegan: Use plant-based alternative like Earth Balance.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 egg, lightly beaten (for vegan: Mix 1\u00bd teaspoons of ground flaxseed with 1\u00bd tablespoons of water and let sit for 15 minutes until the mixture thickens.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 teaspoons vanilla<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preheat oven to 375\u00b0 F.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Combine filling ingredients in a large bowl. Pour into a greased pie plate and set aside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the topping, mix sugar and oats in a bowl. Cut in butter or butter alternative (you can use your fingers).
