What&#8217;s more, they qualify as vegan and gluten-free without even trying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This <em>recipephany <\/em>came from <em>The Boston Globe\u2019s<\/em> Confidential Chat (or informally, \u201cChatters\u201d). An early form of social media, the column connected readers who mailed in recipe requests, recipes, and good-ole-fashioned kitchen advice. <em>The Globe <\/em>retired this vestige of the Betty Crocker Era in 2006, blaming the Internet for killing it. We still miss Chatters, and think <em>The Globe<\/em> should reboot it (with a chill name, of course), because home cooking loves community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After all, you never know where you\u2019ll discover a gem\u2014like these spiced pecans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" id=\"spiced-pecans\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Spiced Pecans<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(<\/em>adapted from<em> The Boston Globe \u201cConfidential Chat\u201d <\/em>column<em>)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 cup granulated sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cup cold water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00be teaspoon salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 teaspoons vanilla<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon cinnamon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 pound pecans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simmer all ingredients together in a flat-bottomed pan.
